Disney Pop Figures, let’s be honest we have all either got, one, want one or knows someone with one. I, on the other hand like to fill a whole wall with them. Now I know they are not all Disney but a large portion of them are. Once upon a time I was going to do a blog post based on each of them. So the blog would be about the film or other merchandise and my opinions of them but I thought I would just do a whole piece about all of them.
As you can see this collection is quite big and whereas it doesn’t look like a wall from Forbidden Planet at the moment, we are getting there. And what’s nice is it all started with a mouse.
Yes, Mickey was my first one and it was at this point that I decided that I was going to collect all of the Disney pops, something I haven’t done and if I’m honest, probably won’t get to do. So for over a year, me and my partner bought these as and when we wanted tem, we also bought them for each other and became the biggest part of our Christmas lists that year, we have slowed down since but still each birthday and Christmas we add one or two to the list.
My biggest collection (Disney wise) is from Beauty and the beast. I love this film and whereas it’s not my overall favourite it is up there, and out of my top three is the highest ranking mainstream film on there.
Luke got me the Beast first and he was shortly joined by Belle and Lumiere. Cogsworth has been on my list for a while but they keep bringing out more and I have to make a choice each time, Yzma or Cogsworth, Hades or Cogsworth, and he has just gone to the back =(
I have a lot of princesses too, it seems the big focus and why shouldn’t it be, they sell. Though I have made a rule that I will only get the princess ones I like, the majority of characters I get are the villains, hence: Scar, the Evil Queen, Maleficent, Voodoo man, Ursula, Cruella, Prince John, Gaston, Jafar, Hades, let me know if I've missed one.
My favourite of all the Disney ones changes from time to time, right now I’m digging my Hades but I’ve always liked Buzz, Robin Hood, Rapunzel, Ursula, Cruella, Evil Queen, the Beast and Scrooge McDuck. But if I was writing this in a few months I would have a new one that’s my favourite.
Luke collects them too, he actually owns the Aladdin ones (which means the Jafar above is actually his) but we combine the collections together. I think his appreciation for Disney merchandise stems from the pop figures; it was the first thing that he kind of embraced. Which was exciting for me, and I’m sure it opened up a whole new world for him.
